The "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" mall walk is in October each year.
Last year more than ten thousand people marched to raise almost 500-thousand dollars.
In today's Buddy Check Three....Channel Three's Kathryn Daniel introduces us to a group going into just their second year...With fundraiser and family on their minds and in their  hearts..
this set of sisters  lost their mother to breast cancer in 1990...Just two years ago...Older sister Debbie Smegelski finished her treatment for breast cancer.
"Debbie Smegelski/Breast Cancer Survivor; "I thought, okay.  I can breathe a little bit, everything gonna be great and it was just a couple of months later, my baby sister, 11 years younger than me got the diagnosis."
Maria diamante -- at just 37 -- along with a maternal first cousin -- battled breast cancer.
A mere month out of recovery Maria called the American Cancer Society  and said -- "put me to work"...She was asked to become a "Making Strides" team captain...
"I said, what, I don't know anything about starting a team, but my competitive nature kinda took over."
Right away she rallied dozens of members and organized several original fundraisers -- a Pink Ribbon Jazzercise party...Ice cream socials -- and this year is spearheading a pink poker tournament...But she needed a name for her hastily assembled group...They settled on  "The Jiggly Crew."
"We wanted something that would definitely get people's attention."
It worked...Their first year they had 90 members...Some from as far away as Iceland...Together they won a cat country facebook fundraiser...Beating out very established teams.
Coming and going -- folks noticed the "new crew."
"Our shirts on the back say, watch us wiggle, see us jiggle, whatever angle you're looking at us from, we could be jiggling anywhere."
A fun group for sure...But these sisters are serious about their cause...Debbie says each year she marches -- she adds to the list of women she walks in honor of...
"Definitely for my mother and the second year I walked it was for the two of us, and the third year I walked, it was for all three of us."
The "Jiggly Crew" welcomes new members.
Wear also has a "making strides" team...
