What happens when you take your hobby and mix it with compassion?
Well, let's just say, you get a picture perfect combination.

Timothy Brooks, Wide Angle Photo Club;  "The main goal is to share the art of photography to the community of Pensacola."

Dr. Norm Haines, Wide Angle Photo Club;  "We have professional photographers.  We have semi-professional  but most of us are just enthusiastic amateurs.  And what's nice about it, we can do our hobby, we can share our interest with everyone else that has that same interest."

That was the founding premise of the Wide Angle Photo Club.  With a strong and growing membership, 20 years ago they started the power of photography show and competition.

Tim;  "Anybody can enter; photographs from all over the southeast.  It's judged; we have three judges that pick the winners."

And the community came on board with businesses and individuals sponsoring additional awards.  The club receives more than one thousand entries each year.  The numbers led the club to an added mission nine years ago.

Tim;  "We recognized that we had revenue coming in from the show that was in excess of what we needed to operate our club so it became natural to invest in a group that does excellent things for our community helping the disabled."
Brandi Whitehurst, ARC Gateway;  "It's just a wonderful partnership between ARC Gateway and all these incredibly talented photographers."

That partnership is win, win for ARC Gateway, and for the members too.

Brandi Whitehurst, ARC Gateway;  "It means a lot to us. We have some critically underfunded programs like children's therapies, supported employment and supported living.  And without generous donations like this, we couldn't provide those services at the level that we do."

Dr. Haines;  "It allows us to enjoy our hobby and then give a little bit back and benefit such a worthwhile organization."

And the win is a big one.

Tim;  "The Wide Angle Photo, through this show, The Power of Photography, has donated 25 thousand dollars over the past nine years to ARC Gateway."
