Many children on the autism spectrum need continuity for things and people to stay the same.
They were about to face a big upset when one of their teachers suddenly wasn't going to be able to work with them at summer camp.
But, an angel with a little know-how, brought them all together.

Tammy Dasher, Special Education Teacher; "I've been a teacher at Pace High School for 20 years.  To realize that I not only would not be at camp but that I wouldn't be there for the first time in 20 years when school starts, it was very difficult."

The "difficult" challenge of dealing with cancer treatment would have meant that Special Education Teacher Tammy Dasher would have to miss Autism Summer Camp.   But, that wasn't a challenge at all for Dr. Crissy Ogilive.   A new education professor at the University of West Florida, she's also a techie.

Dr. Crissy Ogilive, The Tech Angel;  "And we'll Skype her in.  It's free, it's easy.  Then she can be there.  She can be the mentor that I would like to have for my own self but also for these kids.  It's important to have that connection for them."

Tammy;  "I'm not the biggest technology person so I was a little nervous about it but she walked me through it.  And I was very excited."

Dylan;  "I like talking to her."
Making that connection with their familiar face and voice, was making a difference for these campers.

The connection to their teacher is also important to Crissy.  You see, she's learning a lot from Tammy, too.

Crissy;  "I just really liked her.  She's one of those teachers that gets "kids" and gets teaching and how to do it."

Dylan Harris, Keeping in Touch via Skype;  "We were talking about the last space shuttle launch and Harry Potter and the new Transformer movie that's coming out."

Crissy;  "He couldn't wait when he found out we had her live and going on.  He wanted to sit right down and "let me talk to you, let me tell you what I'm doing."

Their interaction has brought a sense of comfort to some of the students.  They'd been worried when they heard Miss Dasher was sick.

Tammy;  "And so for them to be able to see me, and yes, I'm o.k. and I'm gonna be back; is probably good for them as much as it is very good for me as well."
