Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea that may become another depression though chances are low.

Angels in Our Midst (Fill the Mayflower Donors)

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 01:43 PM CDT
ESCAMBIA COUNTY  -   Last week, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, people were asked to share food with those in our community who are going hungry.
The goal was to fill "one" moving and storage truck.
The Angels in our Midst did that and then some.

The truck was parked and waiting, 51 feet of empty space needing to be filled.

Gloria Green, Night Shift nurse donates food;  "Giving, it makes you feel good..."

It wouldn't take long for the giving to begin.  One of the first, a nurse just coming off a 12 hour overnight shift.
"It makes me feel like, I can afford to give so, why not.  And that's it; giving makes you feel good."

There were a lot of good feelings going around on day one.  The procession of donors rolled all day and into the night.

Every can of soup, green beans and peaches; every box of cereal and bag of rice would lead to one less child or one less senior citizen going hungry.  People from all walks of life were coming to share while giving thanks themselves.
Joe Richard's, USMC;  "It's just a special feeling to give a little back, that's all.  I didn't have food but got a little money.  So, that's all it is; it's just giving back."
Anna  Robillard, Sharing her blessings;  "I am very fortunate that I do not have to worry about food for my table for the next day or so. I did it last year and I think it's wonderful.  Those of us who have, need to share."
There were the corporate gifts of $30,000 from Walmart Foundation and $25,000 from Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union.  With generosity overflowing, a second truck had to be brought in.  The Escambia County School District added 21,000 pounds to the haul; another sign that our young people really got what this drive was all about.
"No matter how little you can give, it's always helpful to give anything you can."

Caleb Carpenter, Delivering Company Donation;  "I go to Pensacola Christian College and to have a place of security to go into, rest my head at night, have food, three hot meals each and every day; it's a real blessing. People who have resources to give to people who don't have the  resources or the means to provide themselves. It's a real blessing.  It makes you feel good inside."
Thanks to all of you for 180,000 pounds of good feelings.
Angels in our Midst is brought to you by Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.
