Angels in Our Midst (Diana Adams)

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 01:43 PM CDT
She has spent the past 20 years in the nursing profession.
On the ground and in the air, she has answered the call for help.
Now, her friends are sending out their own plea for this angel of mercy in our midst.

For the past nine years, when moments counted, Diana Adams has taken to the air to save lives.  Now, the Life Flight nurse is grounded.

Diana Adams, Flight Nurse & Paramedic ;  "My cancer had spread throughout my entire abdomen from the appendix originally,  And now I am stage IV. I've taken care of so many patients, whether it's been in my career in the ambulance, or in the emergency room or, now, in the emergency helicopter ....  you know, I've always given the best care I can and I love what I do.  And now, I'm the patient."

Melissa Southard, Stroke  & Spinal Cord Injury Coordinator;  "She has touched so many lives and she's fighting for her life."

It is the way she touched so many other lives that has people wanting to reach out to her right now.  For Diana, nursing isn't just a profession, it's a calling.

Melissa;  "Their job is to bring the patients to us and they can leave and go.  She doesn't do that; she doesn't just leave.  She stayed and helped. If it was the middle of the night, she'd come by and check on them  in the morning; see how they were doing.  She's like that with everything she does.  She's got the biggest heart."

George Harris, Diana's Husband and Co-worker;  "When she's at home doing laundry, washing my flight suit and hanging it up, she cries.  She misses the job, she truly loves this job."

Diana's husband is working his shift and hers too while she undergoes some really tough treatments.  His strength and the support of co-workers are a big help but her biggest motivator to beat the odds.

Diana;  "My son's graduating from high school next year, he's 16 and a half years old and one of my major goals is, of course, to see him graduate from high school and go on to college.  He'd like to go to medical school.  So, I'm fighting for him, my family and, just, I want to live."

And many people are sending up prayers to help their angel get her wings back.

Melissa;  "The prognosis isn't always so great  but I believe in miracles; I've seen them.  I've seen them every single day and I want one for her."
