Angels in our Midst (Cram The Van 2012, pt. 2)

Marianne Back, United Way of Santa Rosa County;  They run entire pieces of the drive that complete the puzzle of Cram the Van.

And every volunteer is critical to the success of the Cram the Van project.  One woman in particular, Denise Martin, stepped up four years ago to take on the lead role.

Marianne Back, United Way of Santa Rosa County;  She is fantastic.  She takes over all of the packing and the inventory and all of that sort of organization and logistics for the drive.  It's really the nuts and bolts; kind of the grueling work that a lot of people don't like to do.

Denise didn't come alone.  She came with a small army and a purpose.

Marianne;  She usually brings her five children with her and their friends, and their friends.

Denise Martin, Cram the Van Volunteer;  It was a chance for my children and my fiancee's children to learn a few things about giving to the community.

Denise is teaching them that there is as much in giving as there is in receiving.  Her troops have worked every aspect of Cram the Van.  They've handed out flyers, collected supplies, shopped for supplies. All the way through getting the supplies into the hands of the children who need them.

Denise;  It breaks your heart, you know, when you see kids who don't have that are less fortunate or are just struggling.

Struggles that Denise knows firsthand.
Denise;  I've needed help before with my children.

Some people are just in that desperate need where they need it.  And I've been there.

They give of their time and talents for any number of reasons but all of the volunteers are a show of community coming together to take care of their own.

Steve Williams, Pace Walmart Manager;  It's good to see the leadership like what we're seeing with United Way and some of the organizations setting an example for these kids.  It's good not only for the kids receiving but for the kids participating.

All the way around, that's what it's all about.
Denise;  The kids.
To see the kids happy.
