PENSACOLA - When the call went out for help, one the area's foremost children's champions, Sandy Sansing led the giving.
Other corporate donations came from International Paper, Gulf Power Company, Walgreen's, the Escambia Public Schools Foundation and Walmart.
And the most incredible response came from you, the Angels in our Midst.

Sharon Davern, Saw the need; Our children are needing help.
I grew up kind of on the lean side and I feel that when children need it, give when you can.

All day long, they came. Hundreds of different stories and reasons for giving.

Charles Randoph, Action behind his words; "A lot of us talk about taking care of kids and making sure that children are taken care of and we don't do anything. And this is important to me."

A lot of people remembered times when someone reached out to them.

John Vaden, Donating school supplies; "I raised five children alone. I believe in the old addage that it takes a village to raise a child."

Startling numbers tell the story. 61 percent of students in Escambia County and 37 percent in Santa Rosa are eligible for free or reduced lunches.

Fonda Thomas, Retired Teacher; "I definitely, remember being in my classroom with my students not having the supplies they needed. And the amount of money, that as a teacher, I spent out of my own pocket, you know, willingly but, still, we had to do that every month."

Diane Kaull, Understands the hard times; "A lot of people out of work. It's very hard for them to do for their kids what they want to do. I don't have little ones but I know how hard it can be."

Even the littlest angels seemed to understand the importance of what they doing.

Kirsten Swalley, The Littlest Angels; "We bought some crayons, some writing journals and some glue."

"That was so much fun."

Three and a half van loads later, the day left everyone with a good feeling. And thousands of families can know their children will start school with the supplies they need, thanks to a generous and caring community.
