PENSACOLA - More than 100 teenagers from Birmingham, Alabama are spending part of their summer vacation in Pensacola.

While they hope to get to the beach, they have a more pressing reason for being here.
These members of the Hunter Street Baptist Church are doing the work of Angels in our Midst.

Darian Morris, 17 years old; We're called Chi Alpha, it means Christ First. we are in Pensacola. we're doing missions all around.

Around 150 members of Chi Alpha are volunteering at eight agencies in Pensacola. 47 of them have taken assignments at the Salvation Army.

Cameron Shannon, 18 year old missionary; We're here to show the love of God in a practical way.

Practical things like a fresh coat of paint on the walls of the gym, repaired bleachers and new picnic tables.

Cameron; To me it's kind of a waste of time not doing that, not being here showing them what God's done in my life and what He can do in their lives.

Even at such young ages, they say their lives are a testimony. 18 year old Sarah Story just received a soccer scholarship to the University of Mississippi.

Sarah Story, Incoming Mississippi Goalie; A dream. I want them to know that they can get somewhere in life. I mean, my family's not rich. I come out and do what I can with what I'm given. And look where I got.

And everyone here gives freely of their gifts; everyone has a purpose.

Sarah; I might be 18 but I'm a big kid at heart. I like hanging out with kids because I can keep up with them. And I knew I'd be a help in this area.

They are quick to tell you that this mission is not about them but they admit that there are rewards.

Darian; It feels good because you're doing something not for yourself. You're doing it to help somebody that you've never met before. It's good; it's a good feeling.

Sarah; I'm trying to learn to be a leader not only on the field but off the field in other people's hearts. At the same time these little kids are teaching me. They're teaching me how to stay humble, how to stay focused. This is where I started. This is how I learned; somebody taught me how to play.

And the lessons they are teaching, they hope these children will someday pass along as well.

Angels in our Midst is brought to you by Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.
