She operates with limited resources but has a lot of needs.
He has the time and natural gifts and abilities.
They both love animals.
Together they have a partnership made in heaven thanks to an angel in our midst.

Glen Monks,Wildlife Sanctuary Volunteer Carpenter;  "Dorothy mentioned she needed some cages.  I said, well, what kind of cages do you need.  We started out like that.  I said, what do you want Dorothy, what do you need."

With that, Glen Monks became an indispensable part of the team at the wildlife sanctuary.

Dorothy Kaufmann; Wildlife Sanctuary Director;  "He's the mastermind of all of the carpentry around here."

And the master builder.  A retired electrical engineer, carpentry is a natural born gift and a hobby.

Glen;  "Anything that I build would be done in my garage and I bring it out here."

Glen spends enough time "out here" to understand the special needs for this place.  Consideration has to be given to the animals, the visitors and nature.

Dorothy;  "He already knows what we're fighting.  He knows we're working with the elements.  We're working with 800 people coming through ... you also have animals all around."

That calls for attention to the most minute details.

Glen Monks;  "The main thing is to separate the plexiglass and the poster so you won't get moisture in between. You want to be able to get the rain down here and drain it out.  That's why these little drain holes."

Dorothy;  "He did a lot of hospital cages for us that could wheel in and out so we can pressure wash them.   He made them where we can disassemble, bring them through the door, reassemble."

One of his latest contributions is the eagle's nest.  It's an educational tool to let children get the feel of sitting in the home of a bird with an eight-foot wing span.

Glen;  "Dorothy and I talked about what she wanted to do and I put the ideas into a project.  We played a lot of it by ear."

Something else that Glen understands about this place, it's run on a limited budget.

Dorothy;  "I'll go, O.K., how much do we owe you?  Nawww, I've got it."

Glen;  "We donate.  We donate the materials. The way I look at it, they're all God's creatures and part of this world and we ought to try to take care of them and helping down here is one way."
