The remnants of what was Tropical Storm Erika are north of the northern coast of Cuba.  The trough of low pressure is moving W/NW at about 20-25 MPH.  That motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.  Southern and Central Florida could get heavy rainfall from the remnants beginning on Sunday.  Rainfall amounts could top four inches. Flash flooding is expected for much of the Florida penisula.

There is a 40% chance of re-development of the system in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.  The impacts are expected to stay mostly the east of our viewing area for the duration, but we will continue to closely monitor the situation.

HEALTH: Enjoy summer fruits while in season story image
Fall will be here before you know it..
And when it comes to fruit, there's only a few more weeks to take advantage of what's in season.

One trip to your local farmers' market or even the produce section of the supermarket and you can see the options are plentiful this time of year.  So enjoy summer fruits, before the season ends.

When you're buying fruits, you want to think about color.  Eat the rainbow.  Buy as many colors as possible and that way you know you're getting all the nutrients you need from your fruit.

For example: Not only are cherries low in calories and high in fiber, they contain antioxidants that help fight cancer and heart disease.  They also may have weight control properties, according to recent research.

And watermelon lovers, rejoice. This fruit is abundant this time of year.  Did you know it's 92 % water?  That means it helps you eat less and feel more satisfied at meals which might be music to your ears if you're watching your weight.

Also, juicy stone fruits like peaches, nectarines and plums contain compounds that may fight metabolic syndrome.  That's a group of conditions that increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Plus, the same compounds may also hold potential for combatting breast cancer.

So put them on your shopping list.  Your tastebuds and your health will thank you.
