Some promising news this week concerning a cancer that nobody likes to talk about.

Now, it looks like the message is finally getting out and it's saving  lives.

Colonoscopy is a test that few people relish. But now, new evidence that more of us are getting them and that a common, deadly cancer just got a little less common.

In a new report the American Cancer Society revealing that colon cancer rates have dropped 30 percent in patients 50 and older over the past decade. And further proof that we have that uncomfortable test to thank, colonoscopy use almost tripled in these adults during the same time period.

This growing acceptance may be due in part to increased awareness likely spurred by news anchor Katie Couric's 2001 decision to have a colonoscopy on live TV.

So it may be a promising sign that a screening that we used to only talk about behind closed doors may now be closing the door on this deadly cancer.
