Updated: Monday, November 4 2013, 07:46 PM CST
Here at Channel Three -- Breast Cancer Awareness is not just for October.

We cover survivors and research year round in our monthly segment called "Buddy Check Three".
breast cancer awareness is

Meet a special -- and brave -- young couple.
For 34 year old  Personal Trainer Olivia Goodman -- this journey began in March.

(("I was stretching and I decided you know, let me check.  It was a perfect time to do a self exam and I felt something that was unusual."))

A mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy quickly followed.
But with  no family history -- husband Scott wasn't too worried.

(("It was just more of a scare.  We went into the radiologist office to get the results and it was just a huge shock."))

(("You either take it and be bitter or take it and change the world."))
(("I don't think her schedule changed at all except on Friday's when she had chemo, and she still went to work that morning."))

A dozen friends -- many clients -- would accompany her to chemo.
(("My clients are the most amazing people in the world, they're loving, understanding, supportive."))

A friend formed a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team in Olivia's honor 23 members raised 7,000 dollars for breast cancer research.

(("It really makes you want to fight even harder because other people have got your back."))
(("It showed that she's not in it by herself.  No only, she had me, but one person's not enough.  There's no way it can be enough."))

But she was worried about him --
(("I asked him one day, how are you doing.  I wanted to make sure you're okay and he just looked at me and said, as long as you're okay, I'm okay."))

She is okay -- and humbled.  The fitness expert says she always thought if she ate right and exercised, she'd always be healthy.

(("Made me realize that it doesn't matter.  Anybody can get sick, anybody can get cancer."))

Next week -- the couple faces what they hope will be the last hurdle.
Olivia's scheduled for a double mastectomy.  After a few weeks recovery -- she says she'll start thinking about plans for next year's walk and helping someone else with a new diagnosis.

(("I hope to be able to continue that and pay that forward to someone else someday."))
